Could you help someone take positive steps towards a safer, more independent future? As a Support Worker – Criminal Justice, you’ll work alongside people facing challenges connected with the criminal justice system, offering practical and person-centred support that helps them build stability, confidence and choice.

This is a role for someone who can see the person beyond their circumstances. You’ll listen without judgement, recognise individual strengths and help people make progress at a pace that works for them. Every day can bring something different, so you’ll need compassion, resilience and the ability to stay calm when situations are difficult.

What you’ll do

  • Build trusting, professional relationships with people, agreeing goals together and encouraging progress towards greater independence.
  • Provide practical support with everyday challenges, which may include establishing routines, accessing services, managing appointments and developing life skills.
  • Encourage people to engage with support around their wellbeing, housing, relationships and other needs, working in a way that respects their choices and circumstances.
  • Help identify risks and respond appropriately, following agreed plans, safeguarding procedures and organisational guidance.
  • Work constructively with colleagues and relevant partner agencies to coordinate support and share information appropriately.
  • Keep clear, accurate and timely records, and communicate important updates to the right people.
  • Maintain professional boundaries while offering consistent, respectful and reliable support.

What you’ll bring

You’ll be approachable, patient and non-judgemental, with a genuine belief that people can make positive changes when they receive the right support. You’ll be able to build rapport while maintaining clear boundaries, and you’ll communicate thoughtfully with people from a range of backgrounds.

You’ll also bring good organisation, sound judgement and the confidence to follow procedures, ask for advice and work as part of a team. Experience in support work, care, housing, community services or a related setting would be useful. An understanding of the challenges people may face in contact with the criminal justice system is welcome, alongside a willingness to learn and develop. Above all, you’ll treat each person with dignity and focus on what they can achieve, not simply the difficulties they are facing.
